![]() The type of tubing should be listed on the bin where the tubing is stored or you can also look at the writing on the side of the tubing to verify. If you use Schedule 80, it will be more rigid and it will be harder to bend without popping out of the connectors. Schedule 40 is more flexible, but still sturdy. I recommend that you use 'Schedule 40' PVC tubing. Depending on the area you want to place your tunnel, and how many arches you want, you may need to modify this list.Īlso, there are different kinds of PVC tubing, depending the on the use. This parts list will assemble into a tunnel that has 6 arches and will be about 25 feet in length. Then the arches will be attached together by some lateral tubing that will help reinforce it and keep the structure sturdy.Īs I mentioned, the parts are easy to find and you should be able to find them at any local Home Depot or Lowes. The arches will be secured to the ground using metal rebar at each end, with the tubing just slipping over the rebar. The basic idea is that the tunnel will be comprised of a series of arches. But if you have any questions or feel that something is not clear, then please feel free to comment or contact me. Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, heck you could even use this for Halloween!īuilding your own tunnel is easy, and I think these instructions are straight forward. My version here is all decked out for Christmas, but you can adapt it to any holiday you want. In my case there is a parkway on one side and my yard on the other, and my neighbors can walk through the tunnel on their evening walks. So, a basic requirement is to have some kind of grass or soil on both sides of your sidewalk (or wherever you plan to place the tunnel). The tunnel is basically a series of arches or hoops that span the sidewalk in front of my house. You will have your own tunnel up in no time! ![]() The parts are easy to find, cutting and prep is minimal, and assembly is not complicated. I have created this instructable to share my knowledge and experience so that you can build your own tunnel. I have built a Holiday Light Tunnel for three years now, learning something new each time. And it makes a great platform for hanging and organizing your decorations, making it a much more interactive experience, spreading the holiday cheer! Tired of the same old thing, year after year? What could you do to spice up the old decorations this year? How about a Holiday Light Tunnel! It is super easy to make and your neighbors will be super impressed! Kids will love walking under and through the tunnel. “In total, with all the decorations, the cost came to around £300.The holidays are right around the corner and your mind is probably turning to the outdoor holiday decorations. “The chicken wire cost £6, the hooks cost £4, the Candyland decorations such as candy canes, lollipops, hats, ice lollies, pink feather boas and more cost £250, the baubles cost £40 (they were £10 per pack of 50 from B&M) and the ornament hooks were £1 for 250 and I had two packs of them. "I got the Candyland decorations from Inspirations Wholesale, and all the other bits from The Range, B&M, Home Bargains or my local garden centre. It took me an entire day and Callum's help when he got back from work but it’s so worth it. "Fill gaps with larger ornaments, flowers, tinsel, feather boas or if they’re small gaps then the really small baubles. "My biggest tip would be to start in one focus point and work your way around the arch instead of adding bits here and there - I made that mistake. ![]() "If I couldn’t get the hook to the wire I would use either another zip tie or some garden wire and bend it around the chicken wire and the tie on the ornament. "When it got to the bigger ornaments my partner used zip ties around them so I could hook an ornament hook to it and then hook that onto the wire. ![]() "I started on the bottom right-hand side and just started adding loads of baubles, mixing the sizes so it didn’t look boring and then from there started building it up.
